How to make a celebration at Walt Disney World® even more magical.

People go to the Disney Theme parks and on cruises for all types of celebrations. Whether you are getting married, celebrating an anniversary, birthday, graduation, or even a first visit, Disney is always a good idea and if just experiencing it isn’t enough, there are some fun little things you can do to emphasize the celebration while on vacation. We are going to highlight some of the ways you can celebrate at Walt Disney World Resort®.

Surprise!

Create a fun scavenger hunt through the parks with a gift at the end for the one celebrating. Be mindful of the thousands of other people enjoying the parks as you do this though. A fun idea is to have a gift waiting at one of the stores or hotels as the end as the last clue.

Decorate

Decorate the window of your resort or door in the celebration theme or decorate the room either with items you bring from home or by ordering them through Disney Floral and Gifts. Disney Floral and Gifts has a ton of ideas on how to decorate or send sweet Disney themed gifts.

Itinerary

Make the plan for a day all about the one who is celebrating. Maybe it is Grandpa’s birthday and he loves all the old-school rides like Peter Pan and Carousel of Progress. Create the plan around their lives and loves at the parks. Make dining reservations at a place they love.

Fireworks Dessert parties

A great way to celebrate a special occasion of any kind are these parties that occur usually an hour before the fireworks and then you have prime viewing to enjoy the show. The Magic Kingdom ones are amazing! There is one at the Tomorrowland Terrace. There is another one with Plaza Garden viewing of the fireworks. For the Stars Wars fan, there is the Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular Dessert Party at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. These must be booked ahead of time and up to 180 days ahead of the travel date.

Celebrate buttons

Disney has free buttons for many celebrations; birthday, anniversary, wedding, 1st visit, and you can get them to write anything on one that says “I’m Celebrating” and they fill in the blank.

Cast members will wish them Happy Birthday and you never know what you may get as a little “extra magic”. It is never guaranteed but we know of free little desserts, and cards signed by the characters at a character meal. My daughter counted on her 12th birthday and she received over 125 Happy Birthdays over a three-day trip.

A Signature Dining Experience

If you are celebrating a wedding or an anniversary, a signature dining reservation would be a great option. A restaurant with a view is the best in my opinion. Something like California Grill at the top of the Contemporary with a view of Magic Kingdom or Narcoossee’s on the water at the Grand Floridian.  For a very special dinner, a spot at the Chef Table at Victoria and Albert’s is the crown jewel. This restaurant is a recipient of AAA’s highest accolade, the Five Diamond Award, Forbes Travel Guide Four Star rating and glowing reviews from Zagat and others. These must be booked ahead of time. The window for this is 180 days before your travel date.

Snack or Dine Around the World

If you are on an adult only vacation, a popular activity is “Drinking around the World”. Teams of friends travel the different countries around the Epcot World Showcase having a drink in each country. Many of these teams have fun shirts and they tick off the countries as they travel.

If you have little guys, a fun alternative is to do a “Snack Around the World”.

So, whatever your celebration, you can make it special in so many ways at Walt Disney World®. Yes, being at the most Magical Place on Earth is celebration enough but a little touch to acknowledge a celebration will be remembered for years to come.

Thank you for the tips! I have been planning our celebration at Walt Disney World for weeks, and it’s great to have some extra ideas to make it even more special. I especially appreciate the tips like adding a special badge to our bags and taking a family photo. Those will definitely be fun additions to our time at the park.
